How
do I view video on the internet?
To see video on the internet there is a huge range of possible
options, but the main software packages used are:
Windows
Media Player
Downloadable for free from Microsoft and supplied with most
Windws PCs, Windows Media Player allows you to view a huge
array of file types including WMV video, MPEG movies, AVI
files, and MP3 & WMA audio. You can get Windows Media
Player free at Microsoft's
website. This is probably the most popular video solution
for PCs at the moment, but Windows Media Player is also
available for Macintosh, albeit with far more basic features.
RealPlayer
The RealOne Player is needed to play back video in Real
format (.rm or .ram). It will also play real audio (.ra)
files, as well as playing .AVIs, MPEGs and MP3s on PCs (though
not on Macs). RealOne Player is available free from real.com,
though they wil inevitably try to get you to buy their RealPlayer
Plus for a small fee.
Quicktime
Player
Apple's video solution is also popular on the web. You need
it on a PC to play Quicktime movies (.mov). On a Mac, it's
the main player, handling most filetypes (with the notable
exception of Real and Windows Media). You can get Quicktime
for free at http://www.quicktime.com.
Other
Solutions
There are other ways to use broadband video to your advantage.
one of the newest technologies out there is from WebROM
TV. It involves downloading their software to view,
but the results are stunning
